South Florida Summer Skies & Lightning 2011

Because of wonderful prior reports, I decided to visit Robert Chaplin's South Florida Skies and Lightning workshops this year. The mosquitos and heat were sometimes minor nusances, but the spectacular skies more than made up for them. The ever changing cloud formations, including thunderstorms, made for some outstanding images. Lightning Triggers help us capture lightning strikes. I also did several black & white images, both infrared and regular conversions. We also spent one evening photographying the Miami skyline.

SE Alaska Wrangell to Juneau, 2011

This trip was another great one aboard the Delphinus and through Dolphin Charters. The weather was a highlight (it really only rained one day and was sunny several). The photo highlights for me was Dall porpoise, sea otters, and eagles. Another highlight was our day in the Ice Kingdom with the icebergs and glaciers and near perfect weather. We saw many humpback whales, but thet were generally not very active in their behaviors. Bears numbers were limited, but we did see a mother brown bear with her new spring cubs. I think everyone had a great time and every trip to Alaska only makes me eager for the next one. Images from the trip are available at http://jalbum.net/en/browse/user/album/1002963/.

Yosemite NP, CA 2011

This year's Yosemite trip was defined by high water, making great falls, peak dogwood blooms, and cooler than normal temperatures. The ever changing weather made for a variety of conditions and may different types of light for the images.

Yosemite is a location that provides outstanding opportunities year after year.
